Room to Dream
When young adults age out of foster care, the state helps them secure an apartment and provides a few basic household essentials while they are working or attending school. While these resources meet immediate needs, they often leave youth with a place that feels empty and impersonal.
Through Room to Dream, we help transform that house into a home. Every young adult meets with our team to share their style, favorite colors, practical needs, and inspiration for their space. Together, we create a plan that reflects their personality and gives them a home they can thrive in. Using donated items from our storage room and a designated shopping budget, we gather everything needed to bring their vision to life. We provide décor, lamps, side tables, bedding, towels, kitchenware, bathroom essentials, and other household necessities. Before they settle in, we take each young adult grocery shopping to stock their kitchen with food and other essentials for their first weeks at home.
Room to Dream is about more than decorating an apartment. It is about reminding every young adult that they are seen, valued, and worthy of a home that reflects their unique story.
Mentorship
Many young adults who age out of foster care begin adulthood without the consistent support of family or trusted adults. Everyday decisions, from budgeting and employment to relationships and life goals, can feel overwhelming when there is no one to turn to for guidance.
Through our partnership with Orphan Care Alliance's Life Coach program, every young adult we serve has the opportunity to be matched with a caring mentor. Life Coaches commit to building a meaningful relationship by spending at least one hour each week with their mentee for one year. Along the way, they encourage, listen, celebrate milestones, help set and achieve goals, and demonstrate the love of Christ through a consistent, caring presence. Before being matched, every Life Coach completes an application, background check, interview, and specialized training covering topics such as the foster care system, trauma, attachment, and healthy mentoring relationships. This preparation helps mentors confidently support the unique needs of young adults with foster care experience.
Healthy relationships can change the trajectory of a young person's future. That is why we are continually recruiting compassionate men and women to serve as Life Coaches, so every young adult who desires a mentor has the opportunity to experience the encouragement, stability, and hope that comes from having someone invest in them.
