Our Faith
Freedom Christian Foundation is a Christ-centered ministry rooted in the truth of the Gospel. Our faith is the foundation of everything we do as we serve youth involved in the foster care system.
James 1:27
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
Our Story
In August 2023, after faithfully serving for more than 40 years, Dr. Michael Currans retired from Freedom Community Christian Church. As the church entered a new season and merged with several other congregations, the leaders prayerfully considered how the resources God had entrusted to the church could continue advancing His Kingdom.
Dr. Currans proposed establishing a nonprofit ministry dedicated to serving vulnerable young men and women who had aged out of the foster care system, and from that vision, Freedom Christian Foundation was born.
Our team has had a heart for children in foster care through personal relationships, ministry, and the experiences of close friends and family involved in foster care and adoption. As we learned more about the challenges young adults face after aging out of the foster care system, we recognized a significant gap in support. We knew the Church was called to step into that gap.
Scripture reminds us to care for the fatherless, love our neighbors, and reflect the heart of Christ to those who are vulnerable. Guided by that calling, Freedom Christian Foundation exists to help young adults aging out of foster care build a strong foundation for the future by providing practical resources, meaningful relationships, and the hope found in Jesus Christ.
God has already done more than we imagined. Today, we help furnish multiple homes each month through our Room to Dream initiative, connect youth with caring mentors, and partner with organizations that share our mission of caring for the fatherless. As our ministry continues to grow, so does our vision. Our prayer is to become a trusted source of support and resources for youth aging out of foster care throughout Central Kentucky and, ultimately, across the Commonwealth. We believe the Church is uniquely equipped to change the trajectory of a young person's life, and we invite others to join us as we share the love of Christ with those who need it most.
